Starship Assault – Mode is for vehicle only based maps with up to 24 players, which covers space battles where you can take on Star Destroyers, fly through imperial Dock yards and asteroid fields, while jumping into some of your favorite ships such as the V-Wing, X-Wing, Tie Bomber or Interceptor. The better you play you unlock battle points to unlock Slave One, The Millennium Falcon or Kylo Ren’s Tie Fighter, these ships can give you an advantage especially with unlocked mods which increase your weapon damage or improve your ships thrust.
Blast – is a close combat game mode with fast paced action of up to 20 players, the objective of this game is to kill the opposing team and whos kill limit is depleted first loses. The maps are a bit smaller and was very frantic at times but still enjoyable as you were always right in the middle of the action.
Strike – is an objective based mode where you have to secure and defend points, with up to 16 players it is very team based as you have to work together to secure the points or defend from the opposing team. This mode is very tactical as if you are unsure what your doing you can easily be overrun.
Heroes vs villains – pits you against 4 heroes from the light side to the dark side over all three eras of the star wars saga, this is a change from the previous game as you have no support trropers, its a direct fight between heroes and villains.
Multiplayer allows you to earn Battle Points while in game which allows you to unlock unique troopers or heros to help you fight of any opposition, the more you play with each class which unlocks star cards which are mods that can be used to improve your selected character. This requires extensive play to unlock enough to make your characters strong enough to survive for a decent period of time in a game.
This for me creates sometimes an unfair advantage for one team over another creating unbalanced teams.
This customisation can be done not to your characters but to your starfighters and ground based vehicles, this unlocks can be achieved by reaching certain criteria or by completing challenges which can be tracked in your Career Stats tab.
You can track your stats in career mode where if you reach various milestones it unlocks credits, crafting parts, weapon mods such as auto cooling and even crates.Your collection shows off each of your characters and ship attributes from the craft cards equipped to their emote and victory pose.
Arcade mode – can be done solo, co op or versus with a max of 2 players in coop and versus which is local split screen, this mode can be customised with game mode and map but you can add modifiers to increase team size and troops available to you.
The main part of arcade are the battle scenarios covering the Light side and the dark side where you are put in the role of a specific character set during any of the star wars eras where you have to defeat so many enemies. It is a star based system which it increases in difficulty over three tiers for each challenge.. Once you complete the first tier and the first star, this unlocks the next with more enemies and modifiers included, which make it more challenging.
With all these modes and the graphical improvements the force is strong with Star Wars Battlefront 2 which is far superior than its predecessor, plus the inclusion of content for the new star wars movie The Last Jedi provides more variety in maps, characters and in game challenges.
SUMMARY
After the disappointment of the first game, the force is strong with Battlefront 2, which for me has improved visuals and gameplay mechanics that make this one of best Star wars games out there. The story for me game was very enjoyable as it showed events never before told within the star wars universe.
It is a vast improvement and even though you have to put the hours in to get the best out of the game, it ticks almost all the boxes for a perfect star wars game, even the initial release caused upset and lead to the withdrawal of in game purchases made it more of an achievement when you did unlock certain characters and starships.
