What kind of witchcraft is this?!
It’s been two years since ASUS ROG announced the Bezel Free Kit ABF01 at CES 2018, and after all this time many, including yours truly, doubted we would ever see it in stores. Well, against all odds, it’s now available to buy!
“Perfect for first-person shooting, airplane, and racing games, the ROG Bezel-Free kit eliminates gaps between displays for a seamless multi-monitor setup. The kit contains optical micro-structures that refract light, bending it inward to hide the bezels underneath. Create the appearance of one extra-large wraparound-monitor for a totally immersive gameplay experience” – ASUS ROG
It’s a deceptively simple design, but the results speak for themselves. The kit utilises light refraction to bend the light towards the centre of the strips, which will slightly elongate anything being displayed on that part of the screen. Crafted from PET, which is a transparent thermoplastic, it allows 90% of light to pass through it. This will mean you have a slightly dimmer, stretched section of the screen where it attaches, but this will be far less immersion-breaking than the bezels themselves.

The Bezel Free Kit ABF01 relies on slim bezels (under 13mm), and is only compatible with screens up to 27″, but nonetheless it’s an alternative to forking out serious cash for an ultrawide monitor, and indeed, will yield far more screen real-estate in the end.
Retailing at $109, if you live outside the US you will have to get it shipped out to you, but it’s good to know that option is available if you simply can’t wait to pick one up.
It may be a touch on the expensive side, but if you have a rig that can run a triple-screen setup, chances are you’ve already invested some serious cash into your setup, so what’s another hundred bucks here or there?
