Acer Nitro XV282K KV: The Perfect New-Gen Console Monitor?

The Nitro XV282K KV is the first HDMI 2.1 equipped monitor from Acer, and it is perfect for the new generation of consoles. If you’re in the market for a new console gaming monitor, the Nitro checks off everything that should be on your wish-list; excellent SDR and HDR performance, 4k UHD resolution, 120 Hz refresh, HDMI 2.1, VRR.

Acer has fitted the Nitro XV282K KV with their Agile-Splendor liquid crystal IPS display technology. We recently reviewed the Predator XB3, which uses the same type of panel, and were hugely impressed by the vivid display and incredibly rich colours. The new Nitro only has HDR-400 in comparison to the HDR-600 of the XB3, however, it shares the same wide colour gamut. In practical terms, it means there won’t be quite as much contrast between light and dark sections of the screen, but this is more than compensated for by the richness of colour and excellent SDR performance.

The Nitro XV282K KV is also one of the first monitors worldwide to have achieved TÜV Rheinland Eyesafe certification, with the implementation of Acer VisonCare 4.0 technology. Through the use of blue light filtering, automatic adaptive brightness and a clever system that matches the colour temperature of the display to your ambient lighting, the Nitro XV282K KV is designed to help protect your eyes over prolonged use.

Priced at £899 (UK), it’s at the higher end of the price range for a 28″ monitor, but it’s quite reasonable considering the feature set. You are getting cutting edge technology and fantastic picture quality, backed up by Acer’s excellent build quality and aftercare service. Even though this is one of the first HDMI 2.1 monitors to be announced, it’s already shaping up to be one of the best deals for gamers wanting high-refresh 4k gaming, without forking out several thousand for an HDMI 2.1 TV with comparable picture quality.

As we’ve seen from other Nitro models, costs are kept down by limiting things like design flourishes and styling features that don’t directly affect performance. This means all of your hard-earned money is spent on the thing that matters most – the display. That’s not to say the Nitro XV28 isn’t pretty, just take a look at the images. It may be lacking integrated cable management and a flashy stand, but I think it looks great.
