The next-gen update for Cyberpunk 2077 launched today for Xbox Series X|S and PS5, with a free trial available
You could argue that they are over a year late to the party, but Cyberpunk 2077 has finally got a proper next-gen upgrade, with graphical improvements, faster loading times, and ray tracing on Xbox Series X and PS5.
The update is available as a free upgrade for existing owners, so if you don’t want to pay full price on the storefront you could check out the bargain bin at your local game store for a secondhand copy. Once word gets around the prices will no doubt creep up again, so get in there fast!
In ray tracing mode the game targets fidelity, with a 4k 30fps target and dynamic resolution scaling. Performance mode eschews the ray tracing in favour of smoother frame rates, still targeting a dynamic 4k resolution, but with the silky-smoothness of 60fps. Players on The Series S can expect dynamic scaling at up to 1440p resolution.
Gameplay and quality of life adjustments have also been implemented; UI and map enhancements will make it easier than ever to navigate the world and manage your cyberware, new relationship interactions have been added, skills have been rebalanced, AI tweaked and crowds have improved reactions. Additionally, the update also comes with free bonus content, with new weapons and gear, new apartments to rent, and much more.
CD Projekt Red has also hinted at secret extras to discover along the way, so even if you’ve already finished the game, now could be a great time for another playthrough!
If you don’t already own the game and want to be sure the game is actually playable on consoles this time around, you can gain access to a five-hour trial, available from the Xbox and PlayStation stores. We played Cyberpunk 2077 on the PC, so we were fortunate to avoid much of the problematic issues that plagued the OG consoles, but in terms of gameplay, over the last year the numerous patches, fixes and improvements have made this a standout title, and not for all the wrong reasons (at last).
Will you be heading into Night City? Is the new update and trial enough to get you to give Cyberpunk 2077 a try?
