New announcement is a kick in the teeth for console co-op players
Techland has confirmed that Dying Light 2 Stay Human will offer a free PlayStation 5 upgrade to all owners of the PlayStation 4 version of the game, as well as supporting Microsoft’s Smart Delivery service. Thanks to this, all Xbox One players will be able to freely upgrade their copy of the game to the new-gen version enhanced for Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S.
In what is a bit of a kick in the teeth for console gamers, though, Techland also confirmed that cross-platform and cross-generation console cooperative play will not be available for Dying Light 2 Stay Human at launch (Cross-play between Steam and Epic Games Store users will work once the game is released on February 4). If you’re planning on playing this with friends, then hopefully you have the same console or you could be in for a bit of a wait.
Techland recently teased that they will provide 5 years of support for their new title, so console crossplay is likely to be available for all eventually, and we should see some exciting new content and expansions. It’s a risky strategy, though. When you can hold off on your purchase knowing not only will the price drop over time but you’ll also have more content and features, I can imagine many people waiting to pull the trigger on their purchase.
New co-op information has been released:
- Besides the prologue, Dying Light 2 Stay Human will be fully playable in co-op. This also includes finishing the game.
- All session guests can keep their acquired items and player progression.
- Important choices in the game can be made by all players through voting, but the host of the session has the final choice.
