Rejoice, we REALLY CAN build a better (fantasy) world, courtesy of Distant Kingdoms!
All is not lost, my friends. I know what you’re thinking: “Of course it is, James, you deluded fool… look around you!” Indeed, I often fantasise about a better world, one in which socio-economic structures are implemented with a view to upholding the common good, and the best interests of society at large.
Well, now the power is in our hands; or, more accurately, in PCs that are in our hands! Get ready to welcome Distant Kingdoms into your collections and into your hearts.
Operating at the cutting edge of what can only be described as RPG strategy blended with a quest and event system, Orthrus Studios has developed a world in which it will be your duty to take the helm in orchestrating a medieval fantasy society, from its infancy through to its pinnacle.
It’s time to do things your way! You are in control of the beginnings of society, and the decisions you make will determine the fate of your subjects. You will assemble intricate networks of commerce and production, and adding layer upon layer of interdependent trade and development, you will cultivate bustling towns and cities, from the ground up.
The inhabitants of Distant Kingdom’s very own Ineron will depend on you for their basic needs, and further, for their ascent through the echelons of society. Humans, Dwarves, Elves and Orcs alike will undertake the socio-economic voyage from peasant to noble, with you as their guiding spirit.
The added twist with Distant Kingdoms, of course, is that as the grand architect, you must cater not only for the needs and desires of humans, but also those particular to the other species inhabiting the vibrant fantasy land of Ineron. The social structures and infrastructure desirable to humans will not necessarily suit the needs and desires of their Dwarf, Elf and Orc brethren.
But Distant Kingdoms is set to be far more than just a strategic builder. I mean, did you really think it was going to be that easy?! Alas, you will have far more to worry about than just planning permission and balancing supply and demand. Indeed, you will need to assemble your most ferocious warriors to traverse uncharted lands, doing all that you must to preserve the safety and liberty of your people.
You will encounter treacherous quests and fearsome adversaries – including cunning imps, ferocious dragons, hellish wraiths and bloodthirsty trolls – who would see an end to all civilised life inhabiting your good lands, whether Human or Orc, Dwarf or Elf… It is not enough simply to build and cultivate. You must govern, you must venture, you must conquer, and you must triumph!
Distant Kingdoms looks set to test our mettle, our wits and our resolve. Can you handle the responsibility; the peril, and the conflicting duties comprising the otherworldly task at hand? Try you must, for the good of your people. May you have good fortune in all your quests to come!
Distant Kingdoms is scheduled to release sometime in 2020, for Windows PC
