Ryu Ga Gotoku has released trailers for two new Yakuza: Like a Dragon games
Kiryu is back! Ryu Ga Gotoku has surprised gamers all over the world with the release of trailers for not one, but two new “Yakuza: Like a Dragon” games. The first of these is a remake of a 2014 PS3/4 game, previously only available in Japan and set in the mid-nineteenth century; the second is set in the modern era and continues the story of Kazama Kiryu.
Like a Dragon: Ishin!
“Like a Dragon: Ishin brings in familiar faces to tell this epic historical tale. Fans will recognize our protagonist as Kazuma Kiryu from earlier entries in the franchise. In Ishin, Kiryu is cast as Sakamoto Ryoma and brings the rest of his crew along too. Goro Majima and other Yakuza celebrities join Ryoma as friends and foes in this fictional world that trades the flashy streets of Tokyo for the chaotic bustle of 1860s Kyo. These new character dynamics are as thrilling as they are unexpected, with a series of mind-blowing twists and turns in a story only RGG studio can tell.”
With the studio famed for its bombastic action sequences, superb and deeply rich storytelling, masterful character building, and hopefully a whole host of fun side missions and distractions, this is one hugely exciting title many fans will be eager to experience.
Shortly after the initial announcement trailer, Sega also revealed the ambush trailer, with drama dripping in tension, over-the-top action, and excellent graphics, that highlight how exciting this game will be.
With a release window of February 2023, and due to be released on all major platforms (but sadly not the Nintendo Switch), the wait will be an agonising one for many.
Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name
I was surprised but pleased to see Kazama Kiryu announced as the lead character in Like a Dragon: Gaiden. The surprise stems from the fact that Yakuza fans believed Yakuza 6: The Song of Life was to be Kiryu’s swan song. This was reinforced by the fact that the next game in the series, Yakuza: Like a Dragon, was fronted by a new lead character, Ichiban Kasuga, therefore many wrongly assumed that the studio had let Kiryu retire in peace.
Maybe that was once true, but a new trailer shows Kiryu again being dragged back into a fight he wants no part of.
The video begins with a seemingly contemplative Kiryu denouncing his name during a ceremony in a monastery, one assumes in an effort to leave the life he once had behind and assume a new identity under the name, Joryu. However, a stranger appears from the background to give Kiryu instructions for a bit of “manual labour”, before Kiryu rises to his feet in the courtyard, with a gorgeous backdrop of a large cherry blossom tree.
With no further details, for now, other than a vague release date window of 2023, Ryu Ga Gotoku studios nor Sega have released any further details, but we here at Total Gaming Addicts will bring you more news about both of these hugely anticipated games when it arrives.
