The G635 is one of Logitech’s flagship headsets, combining a whopping set of 50mm drivers, excellent sound and build quality, and their flashy Light Sync RGB.
The G635 is, in my opinion, a stunning headset. It has a very understated look that I find with most of their products, focusing on quality and performance over crazy looks, with a subtle strip of RGB around the back of the headset.
Logitech’s G635 offers convenience at its peak, and all of your controls are onboard the headset. On the rear of the left cup, you will find a host of controls, including a switch to change the headset’s mode from PC (USB) to 3.5mm jack, which enables it to be connected to any device that supports a 3.5mm input. Following this switch are three mappable buttons that you can customise in the G HUB software, a volume wheel and a button to toggle DTS on and off.
The headset also features a mute mechanic, however, instead of the usual mute button or inline switch, Logitech has opted for a flip to mute system, and this is not only convenient but also enables their unique solution for concealing the mic: The boom mic can retract in slightly and flips up, neatly slotting into the housing of the headset, leaving you with a clean looking set of headphones. This is a huge plus for me, as with that system you can quite comfortably use the G635 on your mobile phone and not draw attention to the fact you are wearing a gaming headset out and about.
The overall design of the headset is stunning, and it bears the distinctive design philosophy employed by Logitech. Clean and functional, there are no sharp edges or overly outlandish styling features, bar the RGB strips and G logo.
As we have come to expect from Logitech, this is a very well constructed headset, with solid build quality and well-fitted components. Despite this, the G635 remains very lightweight, especially when you consider the large drivers and integrated onboard controls, which makes it strain-free even after hours of gaming.
The cups are my favourite part of the design, fashioned from an almost sport like mesh. This is not only comfortable but extremely breathable, so you shouldn’t find yourself with sweaty ears any time soon. Again, this decision has been extensively thought out, with the cups designed to minimise the pressure on soft tissue while remaining breathable for maximum comfort, and as a side bonus, they are removable and washable. The only downside to having this fabric is that it has a slight impact on the seal around the ears, which diminishes the noise-cancelling effect somewhat.
I can’t praise the G635s performance enough. The experience they provide not only while gaming but also while enjoying other media is outstanding. Compared to many other headsets I have had the pleasure of reviewing, which are often designed with a single-case usage in mind, the G635 feels like it was made to be your one headset for everything, your go-to choice for whatever you want to listen to.
Gaming was great, the subtle details you want to be amplified are there, every footstep and every clip change is sharp and clear, and when you want to enjoy the latest animated Overwatch short or binge The Witcher, the experience does not waiver.
The subtleties of the high notes ring true and the low end is rich with depth, making explosions sound astounding (and Geralt’s voice spine-tingling lol).
To fully top off the G635’s excellent performance, it is fully customisable to an incredible degree. Within the G HUB software, you can not only create custom EQ’s but adjust every point on the 7.1 surround individually. I actually had a fair amount of fun just tweaking my settings and amplifying the sounds behind me.
While it’s not strictly a negative point, the RGB effects are inactive unless connected to a PC with G HUB software. We would like to see them implement some way of activating the RGB while connected to a games console or mobile phone, even if was just an automated pattern or static colour.
Summary
Overall the G635 is a brilliant headset. It’s comfortable and sounds superb.
I would, however, have preferred a slightly better microphone, as compared to various mics I use frequently it is the only part that doesn’t feel up to the standard of the rest of the headset. The compatibility with multiple devices and conservative design makes the Logitech G635 a serious contender if you are looking for one headset to meet all of your listening needs.
