Falcom have been VERY busy of late for western JRPG fans, having recently released Legends of Heroes I and II within the space of a few weeks, all leading up to the Playstation 4 release of Legend of Heroes Trails of Cold Steel III on the 6/9/19.
The first two games were HD remasters of the PS3 and PS Vita versions of the games, and Falcom admit that they had to think long and hard about the development of Heroes III being for just the PS4, or downsized to include a PS Vita version as well. Seeing how the Vita sales of the Legend series in Japan have been outstanding, and Vita owners make up a huge part of the fanbase, it must have been a difficult decision for Falcom to choose to neglect the Vita and only harness the bigger raw power of the PS4. Not including Sony’s handheld does however give them scope to make an even bigger and more graphically complex title than they otherwise would have been able, which makes it all the more exciting.
Heroes III has already been released in Japan on the PS4 in September 2017 to critical acclaim, but it is only now that western fans can look forward to playing it. The game itself carries on the saga of Rean Schwarzer, one and a half years on from the end of the previous game. Expect the same excellent turn based battle systems, engaging story and a wonderful cast of character to bowl you over yet again, and discover why some JRPG writers believe the Legend series is one of the best JRPG’s not called Persona or Final Fantasy that money can buy.
All will become clear when the third of the four game series is released worldwide on the 6th September 2019. Here at Total Gaming Addicts we will continue to keep you updated with news and reviews for this series.
