When I received the Headset X i could not believe that there was a headset in the box, it is extremely small!
This is a on ear headset not over ear, I don’t consider this a con or a pro it is completely down to personal preference.
The build quality is not bad considering the RRP is £17.99 there is a nice leather style headband emblazoned with a bright green under sporting Snake Bytes awesome looking name.
The foam used on the headset is surprisingly soft and comfortable I wore this headset for around 3 hours straight and found no issue with un-comfort due to the foam or quality of the material the only addition for comfort I would like is a slight swivel so that the cup could adjust to the angle of my ear, while this could cause discomfort I found that after the headset wore in and I adjusted the head band a bit the discomfort completely disappeared.
Now the big thing that caught my eye about this particular headset other than the look of it and the fact I could comfortably pop the mic off and wear these out and about and no one would know it was a gaming headset.
Taking on board that they said with the rise of games like Fortnite and PUBG gamers are looking for a performance gaming headset at a budget. So to test these out I jumped straight on Fortnite so I could see if they delivered, and boy did they. I was actually shocked at how well the 40 mm speakers in the Headset were comparing to other far more expensive headsets I have owned before, and the mic is pure gold, clear as crystal and honestly i would personally rate the mic above everything else. I tested the mic both using to listen to someone talk through it, and talking through it myself and it’s brilliant, There was no echo and it was as crystal clear as they come. There is no real noise cancelling as they are on ear so i wouldn’t have expected a great deal of noise cancellation either way.
So to put it into perspective no it does not compare to other headsets on the market worth £200+ with superhuman hearing, but considering the £17.99 RRP it’s everything and more that you could ask for, I would happily pay more than that for them.
For me this headset has checked all the boxes, does it perform yes, is the mic good oh yeah, does it have volume control yes conveniently placed inline with the cable and as an added bonus, pop out that mic and you have got yourself some damn good headphones, or at least I thought so walking around Tescos listening to Macklemore.
They won’t give you the depth and directional feedback a 5omm over ear will but for what they are and the price range they are in, I can’t ask for more.
They provide a good enough sense of direction to get an edge over anyone listening straight through a tv or using a pair of headphones, and the sound quality is nice even when listening to music, they were slightly on the high side with high pitch noises being a tad sharp but it’s nothing that bothered me in my time using them.
However the only downside I can honestly point out about this headset is that it feels a bit flimsy, as in i wouldn’t be overly confident slinging them in my bag with my laptop and other items and that they would come out in one piece, however I also have to appreciate that they are intended to be used as a gaming headset so they were not made to be taken out and about the fact they are subtle enough and good enough that you would to me is just a bonus.
SUMMARY
All in all the Snakebyte Headset X is a brilliant Budget headset, if you are looking for a performance headset at a price i would recommend them highly.
