High quality replacement cables for PS5 and Series X|S
As with anything, the overall experience is only going to be as good as the weakest link. When it comes to electronics, and especially consoles, that’s usually your cables. While passable, they usually come with the cheapest cables they can source to keep the price down.
When you are paying hundreds for a console and possibly even thousands for an HDMI 2.1 equipped display, you want it to look its best, so I can’t emphasise enough how important it is to have good quality cables.
Snakebyte’s range of HDMI and USB-C cables are definitely worth a look:
Charging and Data Cables
The CHARGE&DATA:CABLE 5 and CHARGE&DATA:CABLE SX are 2 metre long USB 3.2 (Gen 2), and are rated for 10 Gbit/s data transfer rates.
The braided cables are extremely strong, and they feature some of the most robust connectors I’ve ever seen. No more splitting, bending or fraying next to the connector on these cables!
If you don’t need the cables to be USB 3.2 rated, and just want a longer, sturdier cable to connect your controllers to, the CHARGE:CABLE SX / 5 is 3 metres long, while the CHARGE:CABLE SX PRO / 5 PRO is 5 metres long.
All of these cables are cross-compatible between the Xbox and PlayStation consoles, so you can choose the colour that best suits your setup. The Xbox cables are black and green, while the PS5 cables are black and white (my favourite).
HDMI Cables
Snakebyte makes two types of HDMI cable:
The HDMI:CABLE SX PRO 4K/8K / 5 PRO 4K/8K is 2 metres long and rated for HDMI 2.1. This supports all of the shiny new features of the next-gen consoles, like higher 4k frame rates up to 120 fps and auto low latency. Again, these are fitted with a super-strong braided cable and robust connectors.
- HDMI® 2.1 Cable – 4K-8K (4k @ 120 Hz, 8k @ 60 Hz)
- Cable length: 2 m
- Compatible with 1080p / 3D / 4K / 8K UHD devices
- Braided Mesh cable
- Anodized connectors for optimal durability
- ALLM (Auto Low Latency Mode)
- VRR (Variable Refresh Rate)
- FRL (Fixed Rate Link)
The HDMI:CABLE SX 4K / 5 4K is 3 metres long, but only supports HDMI 2.0, so won’t facilitate the advanced features of the PS5 and Series X|S. Even though they aren’t HDMI 2.0 rated, they are still of a higher quality than the bundled cables, so if you haven’t got an HDMI 2.1 display and are in need of a decent cable, these are a safe bet.
- HDMI® 2.0 Cable 4K
- Cable length 3 m
- Compatible with 4K UHD / 3D / 1080p devices
- Mesh cable
- Design in black and green
- HDR / Dolby Vision
- HDMI® 2.0 Type A/M to HDMI® 2.0 Type A/M
As with the charge and data cables, the console variants are identical, so you can choose based on your favourite colour.
I’ve been hugely impressed with these cables. The braided cables and connectors are impressively tough, and all come with a five-year guarantee, so are clearly made to last. I can definitely recommend these cables if you are looking to eliminate weak-links from your own setup.
The new Snakebyte product lines are making their way to shelves and should be available to purchase now or very soon.
