It might be simple and it’s one of the cheapest headsets on the market, but that doesn’t mean it’s not needed and should be made well.
Since the launch of the Xbox One S I was shocked to find out how many people were completely unaware of this, there has been no single ear microphone included with the console. Shocked? Well, some were, but think about it, many people were upgrading, and how did they keep the cost down so low? Well now you know.
Turtle Beach has obviously seen this gap and have nailed high end spec in low end budget.
For a mere £14.99 (as of 18/4/17) you can get a 40mm speaker, that has a unique open ear cup with Turtle Beaches SpecsFit to even allow for either gaming or regular glasses to be worn comfortably.
Add a reversible over ear design and great quality chat that can be controlled via the inline control system, including mute the mic when you’re eating, or just when you’re having an alternative conversation as well and you’ll be wondering why they are not double the price.
The single ear piece along with the simply genius open ear cup actually offers a good balance of sound from your home entertainment system or TV where as original xbox ones I found to almost make me lose my balance hearing blaring cars and battles on the left with people screaming and shouting in my right.
I had no issues with overall volume levels either but to be honest didn’t have the sub or soundbar anywhere near full volume
Although the headband is obviously a simple and cheap one, it does do the job well enough but found it took a couple of nights for the headband to bend and stop hurting the side of my head after a couple of hours continuous wearing.
The microphone arm was really stable and I had no issues there and was able to have it far enough away so I wasn’t spitting all over it in my rages against other FIFA players.
The quality seemed good enough for my friends in the party too with clear audio.
SUMMARY
If you pay £250 you expect certain things but for a mere £14.99 the Turtle Beach Recon chat delivers more than it’s value.
The quality is just where it needs to be for a simple headset and gives people a quick cheap option for the Xbox One S and other devices
