The early launch of the multiplayer component for Halo Infinite would be the icing on the Xbox Anniversary Celebration cake
The Xbox Anniversary Celebration will be held at 6pm (GMT) today, the 15th November, marking 20 years since the launch of the first Xbox console. As someone who has owned multiple consoles from every generation of Xbox, this fan-oriented tribute to all things Xbox is sure to be full of nostalgic lookbacks at the games, hardware and technological innovations that have brought us to the current, outstanding consoles, the Series X and S.
But, is there something else special happening today?
Xbox reps have already categorically stated that there won’t be any “new game” reveals, but that doesn’t mean they won’t have any juicy details to share on already announced upcoming games, does it? They have plenty of already announced games that could be due for a bit of news, but one game, in particular, Halo Infinite, is drawing the most attention.
No doubt you’ve seen plenty of rumours and speculation on the subject. Our very own Andy shared a video about it (below), and numerous insiders have found data that hints towards a shadow drop during tonight’s presentation.
Scheduled to launch on the 8th December, evidence has been shared that suggests Microsoft might be bringing Christmas early for Halo fans, with the multiplayer component of Halo Infinite rumoured to be made available during the presentation.
Pinch of salt, and all that, but what better way to celebrate the 20th anniversary of both Xbox and the Halo saga than letting fans get their hands on the newest game in the epic series?
Is it likely? Well, maybe. It’s not unheard of for developers to bring their release dates forward, and if ever there was a moment that would make sense, this is it. I personally wouldn’t expect the whole game to go live today, but the multiplayer (which is free to play) going live is highly plausible.
Another possibility, and one that seems most likely to me, is that Microsoft may want to stress-test its servers with a full open beta, as until now we only had the flights which users had to register for in advance. Either way, being able to play Halo today would be huge, and the icing on the cake for Microsoft’s landmark celebration.
What do you think, are we going to be playing Halo Infinite this evening? Sound off in the comments!
