The Xbox Series S was one of the worst kept secrets in gaming.
Now, confirming what was leaked over a month ago, we have the official pricing for the affordable next-gen console.
$299 will buy you a Series S, with £249 expected in the UK.

Although the full official reveal hasn’t happened yet, we do know the Series S is expected to clock in with 4 Teraflops of power (which is a terrible way of measuring performance btw). This is under what the Xbox One X offers, but the new console has a significantly better CPU, SSD, and a much more modern GPU.
1080p is expected to be the optimal resolution for the Series S, but it’s likely that for less intensive games, or ones that run at 4k on the Xbox One X, then 4k is a very achievable target.
The Series S appears not to have a disc drive, and Microsoft will be pushing Game Pass hard with this console. For cost conscious buyers, £249 ($299) for the console and £12 a month for Game Pass Ultimate gets you all the new first-party exclusives and an excellent library of games.
For Xbox One X owners, it will still offer a slight improvement, but this will most likely be more appealing to OG Xbox One or One S owners, or as a second system for others.
It’s a really balanced offering from Microsoft. Xbox owners can go for the Series S or X, or wait for a couple of years knowing they can still keep playing most of the new games (and have them carry over thanks to Smart Delivery). With a lot of people still not having 4k TVs yet, there’s sure to be demand for the Series S.

Release Date
One more detail that has been leaked, but not confirmed, is the release date.
We know they are releasing in November, but we now have a tentative release date of the 10th of November, which coincides in with a lot of other dates like game release dates, hardware release date rumours and more.
Will you be getting a Series S or a Series X? Maybe you’ll be getting a PS5 and want a second system to go with it, or maybe you are waiting for better deals. Either way, Xbox has positioned itself to be accessible to all this holiday season.
