Excited from EGX 2015 when I first played Aaero and after a long chat with the developers I couldn’t wait to get me hand on Aaero.
A simple game at heart flying a spaceship on rails to the banging soundtrack hitting the rails to enhance the vocals, bass and tones. Miss them and it’s like a 3 year old banging on a keyboard at times but then enter the enemy, varied flying objects, creatures and spacecraft hinder your progress for the perfect track. Destroy them as quickly as possible and venture on. Destroying enemies produces some good bass to the track as well so even that has timing involved. Hit the rails perfect to max out your score multiplier as well.
15 tracks all dubstep/EDM offer a great reason to take the headphones off connect your amp or soundbar and turn the bass right up. Spanning 3 difficulty levels that need to be unlocked to progress further. It’s nice that it allows replay ability but if you’re very good at this sort of game you may find it a tad annoying having to redo all of them.
Someone summed it up really well on the twitch preview below, Starfox meets guitar Hero.
It’s not the most challenging concept really but as you will see from the videos it requires accuracy and concentration. Some of the scores on the leaderboard are immense, and it’s fun challenging yourself to beat scores and climb the leaderboard.
Visually it’s dark, it’s bright and quite retro, edgy graphics yet smooth rails to guide you offer a nice blend of visual appeal. Enemy creatures and explosions vary the landscapes even further but don’t get too distracted from the task in hand, accuracy and killing enemies are vital.
SUMMARY
Fun to play in short spells, good soundtrack but not something for every night of the week.
It grabs you at first to discover what’s next but it did get a bit repetitive for me in the end although much more challenging.
