The Acer Predator Orion 7000 is rammed with the latest and greatest in gaming hardware
During the recent next@acer presentation Acer announced some very interesting hardware, including the first commercially available laptop with its incredible SpatialLabs glasses-free 3D display. If you haven’t seen it yet, check out the ConceptD 7 SpatialLabs Edition. There was also a stunning Acer Predator 4k gaming projector shown, and the new Acer Nitro XV272U KF, which is an incredible 27″ 1440p display with an astronomical 300Hz refresh rate, which was previously reserved for 1080p displays.
For me, though, the star of the show was the Acer Predator Orion 7000. This monstrously powerful desktop gaming PC will be fitted with what reads like a gamer’s checklist for their ultimate dream build:
Key Features
- 12th-Gen “Alder Lake” Intel Core i9
- Nvidia GeForce RTX 3090
- 64GB DDR5-4000
- PCIe 5.0
- M.2 PCIe 4.0 SSDs (upgradeable to Gen5 SSDs)
These components are quoted as “up to”, so we can expect CPU variants of the i9-12900, i7-12700 and potentially i5-12600 to be available, and GPU variants likely including the RTX 3070/3070Ti/3080/3080Ti. Memory is up to DDR5-4000, though the new 12th Gen CPUs technically support up to DDR5-4800.
If you have even the slightest interest in gaming tech you’ll appreciate that this is all premium, enthusiast-grade hardware.
The new Intel 12th Gen CPUs will officially release on the 4th of November, so this is going to be one of the first pre-built systems to get the new CPU. The new Alder Lake CPUs are Intel’s first hybrid design CPUs for desktops, which comprise 8 performance cores and 8 efficiency cores (similar to what you’d find in gaming laptops or many mobile phones). Early benchmarks (leaked by Twitter user @OneRaichu) signify the i9-12900K will be significantly faster than AMD’s Ryzen 9 5000 series CPUs, both in single-core and multi-threaded performance. How this will translate to gaming performance remains to be seen, but early indications are incredibly promising.
The graphics cards, of course, are a known quantity – both performance-wise, as well as knowing how limited the actual physical quantities are to purchase. The RTX 3090 is pretty much the pinnacle of gaming performance right now, with a price to boot. We can expect the fully kitted out version of the Predator Orion 7000 to carry a hefty price tag, with the restrained variants being more affordable.
Inside, Acer has also created a new aRGB-pump equipped AIO cooling solution, which combined with efficient Frost Blade fans should keep temperatures under control. aRGB fans and LED lighting on the motherboard complements the matte black finish, while an EMI-compliant glass side panel lets you see inside while minimising any electrical interference.
We’ve been very impressed with all of Acer’s systems that we’ve reviewed. Acer has a knack for providing high-end performance whilst still keeping the price away from the realms of fantasy. I’m not so sure the Orion 7000 will be affordable, per se, but it is likely to be reasonable considering what’s included.
If we’re lucky, we may get our hands on a review unit eventually, so we’ll be sure to give you the full technical breakdown of its gaming prowess, but if you can afford it anyway, I’d be confident that Acer has put together a package that’s well worth the money.
