First of all let me just say that Far Cry Primal looks amazing, the graphics and sound really do a good job of putting you in the Stone Age and I found myself wanting to purposely sneak around with my bow and arrow to immerse myself as much as possible. The gameplay is really addictive and so often I got distracted by locations and events nearby that I ended up forgetting about the story objective.
The story itself isn’t anything to write home about, but Far Cry Primal does sum up your progress each time you log in which is a nice touch. I could easily sink hours in to the game without taking much notice of the story, but I prefer getting engrossed in the narrative and having that feeling of not wanting to put it down which Far Cry Primal didn’t really give me.
There are tons of collectibles/objectives, and as you’re wandering around you’ll encounter random events such as escorting survivors to a location, or defending survivors who are under attack. The game has a day/night cycle too, and as you’d expect if you venture out at night there are different creatures to hunt (or be hunted by) and specific items you can pick up.
I did find the game a little bit buggy, there were a few occasions when I couldn’t search a body or pick up an item, but luckily it didn’t happen too often.
Summary
My main gripe with Far Cry Primal is the omission of coop, it was included with Far Cry 4 so why not this one? Sure Primal is a fun game to play on your own, but for a game where the story really isn’t all that amazing, the inclusion of coop would have made up for that. I would have loved to sneak up on an enemy camp as a duo, taking synchronised arrow shots.
