so let me start by saying, i have never been a huge fighting game player i obsessed with the DBZ games (like every kid in my school did) but that was about it bar the odd tekken game night.
with that in mind i approached marvel vs capcom with doubts, having played the previous installment for a couple of days for reference my expectations were quite high.
it did not disappoint the game is gorgeous, the graphics are great and the characters really do look and feel great, and the attention to detail can not be faulted.
Even small things like the sound of the fighting is great i really did have a great time playing the game and trying out every character that was available, and to better all of this infinity stones are a great new feature they can really turn the tide. one minute you’re playing as a OP ghost rider and destroying Spiderman, then the cheeky sod uses his infinity stone and basically combos you to death.
now what are infinity stones, they are basically a specific perk you chose at the character selection screen, for example a reality stone will power up your hit damage and a mind stone will allow you to combo a lot faster and for longer.
Now it’s not all good the more i played the more the faults in the game started to show as mentioned above some of the character are over powered, also the character selection seems a tad short compared to previous titles not to mention it seems they have gotten rid of a lot of fan favourites.
but the worse part would have to be the response times, the characters reach and powers are unbalanced but this could be fixed, the response times however i can’t see a fix coming. the characters felt slow, as if there was a delay from your controller input to the characters actions.
while it does a lot of things right, very right it does have faults.
the game was good enough to tear me away from my usual racing and shooting for a few days and i’d say if you like fighters or are a fan of marvel movies it’s well worth picking up.
