In an announcement by PlayStation CEO Jim Ryan, it has been revealed that the next PlayStation console will be called… Drum roll… PlayStation 5 (PS5). Shocker.
The release date has also been announced, and again, no prizes for guessing it shares a release window with the Xbox One-Two / Xbox Four / Project Scarlett (whatever nonsensical number they choose this time). Both consoles expected in the oh-so vaguely defined ‘Holiday 2020’. In practice, it’s safe to assume this will be mid-November, though whether one attempts to beat the other to the punch remains to be seen.
On paper at least, there is very little difference between these two gaming behemoths, so until we have the actual facts, we will not be engaging in rumour or speculation. Too many sites share articles how “This killer PS5 feature will have Xbox fans worried”, only for it to be something also available on the other console, or vice-versa.
As was true of this generation, whichever console you choose as your platform of choice, you will have an excellent, fully-featured games machine. The best console is the one you own.
