The Summer 2020 PlayStation release you really should be thinking about.
Back in 2018, Idea Factory released a new IP: a horror RPG called Death end re;Quest. Out of nowhere, and with very little fanfare or coverage in the West, this title received acclaim from both gamers and critics alike for its satisfying, interesting gameplay and fluid battle mechanics, tied in with an emotional and interesting visual novel story. Throw in multiple different endings, that each unlock more gameplay goodies for another playthrough, and you can see how this game could appeal.
The game’s setting revolves around game development and the gaming industry, but much like Idea Factory’s other titles, Death end re;Quest was so solid it has been able to carve out a niche of its own and now stands in the gaming market on its own merits.
So it was delightful news to hear that a sequel is soon to be launched this summer, and as we get closer to the release date, more details of the game are emerging to whet the appetite.
“London, UK, May 28, 2020 – Wordsworth Dormitory seems to have a trend of missing students from Wordsworth – an all-girl’s dormitory in the upcoming horror-inspired RPG, Death end re;Quest™ 2!
Story
Mai Toyama seeks an escape from her traumatic past. She becomes enrolled at Wordsworth, an all-girl’s dormitory situated in the small, mountainous town known as Le Choara where it was rumoured that her sister, Sanae, was last seen. Hopeful, Mai seeks to find her kin, but she soon finds terrifying inhabitants which lurk throughout the town after dark. At night, Le Choara’s streets are filled with Shadow Matter—a horrific group of menacing creatures. Around every cobblestone corner, Mai discovers that her hope of finding her sister lies beneath the long-buried secrets which haunt Le Choara.
What is Wordsworth Dormitory?
Wordsworth is an all-girl’s dormitory for troubled and orphaned young women where Mai and her classmates live, attend classes, and learn about the town’s history.
Throughout the game, there will be choices you will have to make that will impact what happens to the characters Mai meets in Le Choara.
Can you protect Mai’s dorm mates from the monsters that lurk in the night?
Meet some of the new characters you will find.
Chitsuba Idean
A Wordsworth student who holds Victorie in high esteem, making the two good friends. She was orphaned from a young age, and harbours low self-worth and abandonment issues. She is unaccustomed to praise, making her easy to flatter.
Victorie Millet
A charming ditz with a radiant smile. She is playful but forgetful, always managing to play things off with a laugh. As a result, she can come off as insensitive.
Vina Miles
A short, precocious, and arrogant young woman. As the self-proclaimed leader of a trio of bullies, she often stands front and centre with crossed arms. Other students sometimes mistake her dominating personality as charisma.
Key Features
Overkill Brings Huge Rewards – The Overkill system is an added feature where characters can stack damage beyond the health of an enemy for bonus experience! Try to inflict as much damage to all the monsters for bigger rewards.
Beware of the Berserker – During dungeon exploration and battle, a faceless, black figure will appear out of nowhere. The figure will also display an area of attack once it appears. Mai and her squad must step away from the Berserker’s area of attack, as it will instantly kill anyone with one single blow. Run away from the Berserker in the dungeon or defeat all the existing monsters in the battlefield to escape!
Day n’ Night – Mai will need to explore the town of Le Choara during the day and speak with the townspeople to find out clues as to where her sister is. By night, Mai will fight her way through dark creatures stylized in a turn-based RPG. Experience the story through the lens of a visual novel during the day and battle it out against horrific creatures by night!
Don’t Call it a Knockback – The Knockback system is back in
Death end re;Quest 2, but this time, Mai and her squad can smack Shadow Matter even harder! Combo your attacks by flinging monsters to other party members!”
Death end re;Quest 2 has additional mechanics and features included on top of what was already an excellent game. With a brand new setting in England, based around a horror-inspired RPG, this could be the time to check out what this sleeper hit can deliver. Death End re;Quest 2 should definitely be on your list of games to purchase during the long summer months of 2020.
