Shenmue III is a game that looked like it would never happen. With the last game of the series released way back in 2001, the likelihood of a sequel ever coming to fruition was slim, however, with the advent of Kickstarter funding, and a legion of passionate fans, the unimaginable is finally happening!
It’s rare for a game so distanced from its predecessors to get anything other than a remaster or remake, but Shenmue III is a direct continuation of the story set in motion by the events of the first two games. It shares the same art direction as the previous games, and it looks phenomenal, as well as also looking instantly familiar to fans of Shenmue, even though it’s, graphically, several orders of magnitude more detailed than before.
We recently reviewed the original Shenmue on Xbox One and praised its unique art design, excellent character building and wealth of content. The ageing, janky controls were the biggest issue; however, these are vaunted to be significantly improved for the latest outing, with a more modern system in place, along with improved fighting mechanics.
Check out the newest trailer below, and join us as we wait in anticipation for one of the most eagerly awaited returns of this generation!
Shenmue III releases on 19th November 2019, for Playstation 4 and Windows PC.
