In the beginning of the game, there was a cutscene explaining how the Daemons took over the world and divided it into four lands separated by ocean. Their invasion culminated in the creation of a barrier which caused catastrophic climate changes and generated a cross-shaped flow of energy dubbed the Dark Current to destroy much of humanity. You have to then go and save the world.

This is my first review, but i have played many DS games, with Pokemon Sun being my current favourite. So let’s see how Alliance Alive stacks up.

The graphics of Alliance Alive are ok, but they are good for a DS. The reason they are just ok is because when compared to much more polished games like Pokemon Sun and Moon, Animal Crossing: New Leaf, and Mario, Alliance Alive lacks sharp detail in the backgrounds and characters. However, the artwork is very colourful and interesting and i particularly liked the awesome and detailed character designs.

I like the audio music as it was very peaceful and relaxing, but it doesn’t change in battles when things are getting exciting.  There is no voice acting but speech bubbles and dialogue instead, which was ok; and even in the cutscenes, it’s just more speech bubbles.

However, the best bit about the audio is the superb battle sound effects which make up for the music. The battle sound effects make each battle feel EPIC!

To play this game, you have to walk around a map and explore, finding treasures, having battles and complete challenging puzzles. The battles are turn based, a little like the Pokemon games, and are challenging until you get the character called Renzo. When you get Renzo to join your party you can then use the move Em Passant, which can one-hit an enemy very quickly. You can only have four people in your party, and there is no customization, and only a basic amount of moves and upgrades.

The puzzles, although there are not very many of them, are extremely challenging because the game doesn’t explain what the challenge is very well. However, that made completing a puzzle exiting.

The menu system to navigate the game is very easy and clear but there is no online options at all. It is a completely offline single player experience.

SUMMARY

I really enjoyed playing the game because the character designs are good and i enjoy turn-based battles. However, what i didn’t like was that the story was quite dull and there are no side quests so i didn’t feel like playing it for long sessions at a time. Frankly I got a bit bored.
