The Persona series is spreading its wings to more major platforms, including a surprise launch into Xbox Game Pass
I was genuinely shocked during the Xbox Showcase presentation when everybody’s favourite uncle, Phil Spencer (Xbox CEO), dropped the news that Atlus had partnered up with Xbox to add not just Persona 5 Royal to Game Pass, but also Persona 4 Golden and Persona 3 Portable!
Many Xbox gamers may not appreciate how big a deal this is. The Persona franchise is arguably the biggest and most successful JRPG series currently in the gaming world. Additionally, Playstation and Nintendo Persona fans have been begging for more of the games to be released on their platforms for years, yet from out of nowhere, Xbox suddenly gets what they have been asking for!
One has to applaud the forethought of Team Xbox for being the first to the post, and bringing in a wider spectrum of gamers to their platform, but fear not PlayStation and Steam fans, we can officially confirm here that Persona 3, Persona 4 and Persona 5 Royal will also be coming to those platforms at a later date. The only systems we have yet to have confirmation of release on are the Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4, though this is likely to change in future (timed exclusivity, perhaps?)
The official statement from Atlus read:
“ATLUS recently announced that the critically acclaimed Persona 5 Royal, Persona 4 Golden and Persona 3 Portable will be coming to Xbox and Windows. These beloved games will also be heading to Steam and PlayStation®5.”
However, it seems there was some miscommunication down the line – Persona 5 Royal is coming to PS5, but Persona 3 and 4 will only receive PS4 versions (though these will be backwards compatible).
Either way, the best news for all is that arguably the best JRPG series ever made is making its way to many more platforms and will expose a larger gaming audience to the Persona franchise phenomenon. Xbox users, get ready for the Phantom Thieves to steal your hearts (quite literally) with Persona 5 Royal, coming to Game Pass on the 21st of October 2022.
